Thanks to the recent mini Nintendo Direct, we know that the first challenger of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will be some representative from ARMS. We won't know exactly which fighter has been selected to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster until June.
There are 15 different possibilities in total — Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara, Master Mummy, Min Min, Mechanica, Twintelle, Byte & Barq, Kid Cobra, Helix, Max Brass, Lola Pop, Misango, Springtron, and Dr. Coyle. In our recent ARMS poll, it was determined that Twintelle, Min Min, Ribbon Girl, Spring Man, and Dr. Coyle were the most popular candidates among our readers.
The ARMS third year anniversary came yesterday, and yet there was no reveal for Super Smash Bros. Including today, there are only 14 days left in the month. Will Nintendo be able to. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Arms character won’t be arriving until June this year, but we expect Sakurai will drop by in advance to give us a full showcase of the new character in action. Characters can be purchased individually, or as part of the Fighter Pass 2 bundle on the Nintendo eShop. ARMS is Nintendo's latest hit franchise with a colourful cast of characters that would fit well in the Super Smash Bros. With nearly 2m copies of the game sold, and rumours of a sequel on. Two of Nintendo’s fighting game series are crossing over. Today, the company announced the latest fighter to join the gigantic cast of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch: Min Min from Arms. Ol’ toothpaste-head might be ARMS’ equivalent to Ryu as its resident poster boy, but he’s already in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Assist Trophy.
Regardless of who is ultimately going to be playable, there is one attribute that is shared among all these fighters. Whichever ARMS character joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster will very likely emphasize reach in a way that dwarfs everyone else.
ARMS is a 3D arena fighting game in which the primary way of fighting one another is through punching. This title bears a number of similarities to boxing as there isn't any kicking involved.
As the game's name suggests, the arms of the characters are particularly important. Every fighter present has access to extendable arms that are used for long-ranged attacks.
More than likely, the ARMS representative in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will boast an extreme amount of reach with attacks. Other combatants will probably have to work around this reach.
When Shulk was first introduced in Super Smash Bros. 4, he was advertised as having the furthest reaching forward smash in the game. When Corrin was added as one of the last DLC characters, it was explicitly shown that Corrin outperformed Shulk in this regard.
The same occurred when Simon and Richter Belmont's trailer was unveiled. Excluding Mega Man (who utilizes a projectile forward smash), the Belmonts still have access to the furthest reaching forward smashes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

When the ARMS character trailer is finally revealed, I suspect that we'll see this same scenario play out. Simon (or Richter) will whiff a forward smash right in front of the ARMS representative's face, only for them to reach Belmont using their superior forward smash.
This has pretty much all been done already with the reveal of Spring Man's Assist Trophy.
In fact, the new fighter will likely have an entire moveset filled with attacks that boast tremendous range. However, since these extendable arms are attached to the combatant's body, their attacks might not be as disjointed when compared to the weapon-wielding Shulk, Corrin, and Belmonts.
Similar to fighting Dhalsim in the Street Fighter series, I'm imagining that counterplay against the ARMS character will involve fishing for whiff punishes until it's possible to move in closer.
Whenever Dhalsim uses an stretchable normal attack, his limbs would extend out with both hitboxes and hittable hurtboxes. The idea is that this adds a layer of risk to Dhalsim's impressive poking game.
If Dhalsim were able to strike without risk thanks disjointed attacks that had no hurtboxes, then he'd no doubt be significantly better in the games that he appears in. In fact, he might be too strong with that type of formula since the Street Fighter series heavily revolves around playing footsies.
Arms In Smash Twitter
Obviously, the Super Smash Bros. series follows a different set of rules compared to traditional fighters like Street Fighter. Having said that, there is still an element of footsies involved when playing a high level match of Smash.
Super Smash Bros Arms
For now, we don't quite know how an ARMS character will be balanced in an environment like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but this does seem like a possible scenario on how the developers will keep the ARMS character from being too ridiculous upon release. For better or worse, we'll have to wait until June 2020 before we'll find out.
